Then through the branch in his hand, Moses brought about some of the plagues. Moses stretched out the branch toward heaven, and יהוה sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth [Exo 9:23]. Moses stretched out the branch over the land of Egypt, and יהוה brought an east wind which brought locusts upon the land [Exo 10:13]. After the children of Israel were brought out of Egypt and pharoah's army pursued them, Moses raised up the branch and stretched out his hand over the sea, and the waters separated so that the children of Israel went through on dry ground. Moses again stretched out his hand over the sea, causing the waters to return to their place and covering pharoah's army (Exo 14:15-31).
